This past weekend we had a really nice visit with my mother-in-law. She had to leave Sunday morning so she only had one full day, but we stayed in for most of the day and crammed as much visiting into that day as we could. We pulled out the Buzz Lightyear slip n’ slide Saturday evening and my husband and son had a great time playing in the water, and my MIL and I had some quality entertainment. I did slip away for a few minutes Saturday morning and made a trip to the local farmers market. I got some fresh fruits and veggies, and decided to get some fresh bread. I’ve never bought the fresh bread from the market before because it’s so expensive compared to what I usually buy, but I have been converted. The hamburger buns were incredible, they made our barbecue sandwiches perfect. I got a loaf of sourdough as well, and it has been a big hit with my son. One day this week, after oversleeping, I popped two pieces of bread into the toaster while I got my son and myself ready for the day. Just before we left I topped the bread with honey and gave it to my son to eat in the car. I didn’t even have time to cut the crust off. When we got to his daycare 10 minutes later all that was left of his breakfast was the honey that was smeared all over his hands and face.
This weekend we also found a stand up freezer on swip-swap that fits perfectly in our Florida room, and my MIL was nice enough to cover half the cost as a birthday gift to me. My husband made some chicken and pork stock this weekend that have already been given a home in the new freezer, among other things. I’m excited about this coming weekend too. I have Monday off, as it is a holiday, but the most exciting part of this is that my husband will have it off too, so we’ve decided to go camping. This will be our first time camping as a family so we’re just going for the one night. I can’t wait. I keep imagining the three of us sitting around a fire roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. Of course, I also have visions of my husband and I yelling at each other about the proper way to erect the tent while my son runs circles around us screaming and jumping onto the tent everytime we manage to stand it up. The campsite is only an hour away and only cost us $22. We already have the hot dogs and today I went to the dollar store and got some chips, dip, and water, which means that we’ve spent a total of $30 so far. I’m going to make a trip to the farmers market tomorrow to see if the bread lady makes hot dog buns, and get some fruit. I’m hoping that my son likes camping as much as I think he will. It is such an affordable way to spend a weekend away.
I’ll let you know how it went in a couple of days.
