I have had a stressful couple of days. I’ve taken to referring to the IT department Buffy (as in Vampire Slayer) because they both caused and prevented a workplace apocalypse. As a result, I haven’t done much around the house the last couple of days apart from making sure my little guy was fed, bathed, and put to bed and drinking large glasses of wine to wash away the day.
Speaking of wine, I mentioned a while back that my hubby was trying his hand at making some. His first batch was horrible. He didn’t let it ferment long enough so it had the taste of rotting fruit. Awesome. However, for his second attempt he tried mead, a honey based wine. After a little over two weeks he divided the mead and made a smaller, second batch, called melomel. This is mead with fruit added to it. He used fresh cranberries and let it ferment for another week or so. He did this for me, because he knows that I like sweet, fruity wine. I admit that I didn’t have a lot of faith in him, but was happy to be proven wrong. It was excellent and I have enjoyed it quite a bit. And even though it was a smaller batch, it still made several bottles so it will last. My other half’s attempt at reducing our flow of funds while keeping life pleasant.
Today is my Friday, so I have a plan for the weekend. My mother in law bought my little guy a new bed and dresser for Christmas, so we have an extra dresser that we moved out of his nursery to make room for the new.

It is a tall, five drawer dresser, a little smaller than the one that I use in our room. But I only use three of my five drawers, so I figured I could use the smaller dresser and my hubby could move his clothes to the five drawer dresser that I use and we can get rid of the big dresser that takes up so much of our bedroom space.
When we found the dresser that we used for the nursery we painted it all different colors to go with the Dr. Seuss theme that we did. It looks great, but that’s not really the look that I want for our bedroom. So my plan is to stain it to match our current furniture. Of course that means that I have to sand it first. My hubby was off today so he picked up some sand paper for me and when I got home I did a little sanding while he was cooking so that he would be nearby if I had any questions, since I’ve never done a project like this before. While sanding we realized that we were not the first ones to paint this dresser. There are two more layers of paint under ours, so I’ll need to pick up a stronger grit tomorrow. I did get through the paint in a couple of places, though, so I feel encouraged about the progress I can make tomorrow with a stronger grit and no toddler running around to interrupt the work.
Up to this point, I have been the kind of person that either settled for what we had or bought something new. This will be my first time to make an effort to take something that we already have and work to make it what I want it to be. I’m excited and a little nervous.
When I finally got home from work today my hubby was outside cooking chicken on the grill while our little one and the dogs played. It’s so nice not having to worry about cooking and the smell of food on the grill is a wonderful way to be greeted. A little less wonderful was the sight of my little guy running full speed across the yard and then skidding to a stop on his bottom in the sand. My hubby just laughed along with him every time he did this, so I declared that he was also responsible for bathing the little guy tonight. Since I haven’t done any de-cluttering in the kitchen in a couple of nights I will tackle some while the hubby and the kid are getting cleaned up. I know that I need to retrace my steps and do a little touching up in the areas that I’ve worked on so far, but I also want to organize the cabinet that we keep our toddlers snacks, bowls and cups in as it is getting a little out of control.
While writing this, my hubby declared that it was bath time and my little guy sat down on the floor and took off his shoes and socks, emptying them of sand on the floor of the entryway. That means that my time for blogging is over and the time for cleaning has begun. Good night and God Bless!
